The City of Schiedam, together with Eurotowns, the European network for medium-sized cities, aims at hosting a workshop about the importance of medium-sized cities in achieving the EU 2030 climate & energy targets. The workshop will showcase several projects from different Eurotowns member cities, how to foster sustainable development in medium-sized cities towards a greener Europe. The presented projects will highlight participatory approaches for greener solutions in medium-sized cities. The sustainable future of Europe depends largely on the fact of how local authorities and citizens as well as other stakeholders can be better engaged and connected to actively implement climate actions at local level.
In this regard, medium-sized cities play a very important role as they are closer to their citizens and as climate strategies can be integrated more quickly into their local policies.

The Workshop  aims at demonstrating successful projects to showcase why particularly medium-sized cities are important drivers towards a greener Europe. Panelists will discuss their best practices and lessons learnt with the audience in order to share their vision of a sustainable future.

The workshop „Medium-sized cities as drivers towards a greener Europe“ will take place at the European Committee of the Regions, 2, rue Van Maerlant, on 9 October, 11:30-13:00.
