What is Eurotowns

The Eurotowns network was established in 1991 as the Europe-wide network for towns and cities with populations between 50,000 and 250,000. Towns and cities of this size play a significant part in the economic and social life of Europe. The Eurotowns network aims to ensure that this fact is properly reflected in the development of European legislation. There are currently 21 towns and cities in membership of Eurotowns.                     


Its MISSION is:

To develop a network of vibrant, inclusive and sustainable medium sized European cities which will act as a catalyst for urban innovation, creativity and renewal.

Its AIMS are:
To establish and promote a distinctive policy agenda for Europe’s small and medium sized cities
To create a forum for partnership working and collaboration
To organise a programme of activities supporting its policy agenda
To facilitate access to funds for network activities
 

Eurotowns policy agenda focuses on the following areas:

  • Promoting LIFELONG LEARNING and the development of education and skills
  • Growing the KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY and creating better local jobs
  • Providing effective, efficient and SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT systems
  • Ensuring that growth is SOCIALLY INCLUSIVE – all in society benefit
  • Improving the quality of the PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

Eurotowns has a document constitution that provides the main basis of the network.
The Eurotowns Constitution has been revised by the Executive Council in 2006.

Executive council Team

Executive council Team

All members of Eurotowns take part in a anual General Assembly. During the rest of the year the Executive Council team works to ensure the good development of the General Assembly agreements.
The Executive Council is composed by six members of the Eurotowns Network. Is composed by the President, two vice Presidents and 3 other members elected by the General  Assembly.
The executive Council meets at least twice per year. This year the first meeting was hold in Brussels the 4th March.

Since the beginning of the year 2008 Manresa has the Presidency of the Eurotowns network. Manresa will be President until 2011.
I’m very pleased to be leading a network which aims to improve the quality of life and the economic growth of cities.
We start this new period with enthusiasm, looking forward to reinforcing collaboration and working to enlarge the network.

Laura Sellarès is the Eurotowns coordinator.  She is responsible for the day -to-day operations of the network. She works for the establishment and implementation of the Eurotowns General Assembly decisions.
Together with the executive council she is responsible for appointing the Chair, helping the task teams and repporting the project progresses.

She is the account officer and repports the finance matters.

  Pere Massegú is the head of Development Services that includes the international projects Office of the Manresa City Council. He is the City Council representative in the Eurotowns Network and ensure the legal and finance matters for the network.
